Kim Sparks knew early on that he didn't want a career that kept him inside and behind a desk. He wanted adventure and to be outdoors. "That led me directly to forestry when I went to Auburn University," he said.

After graduating with a degree in forest land management, Sparks went right to work--though unfortunately it was during a down time in the industry. He took a temporary job for Container Corporation, cruising company land. When it became evident a permanent position wasn't likely, he moved on to Georgia Pacific. At its Thomasville location, Sparks worked in procurement buying raw materials for the sawmill, specifically for them to cut hardwood lumber and plywood. After a few years, he decided to go out on his own, which he continued for 20-plus years before joining Soterra. But after some time there, he was once again back out on his own, running Sparks Forestry Services, LLC. He travels from his Thomasville location all over the surrounding counties, helping clients with everything that falls into forest land management. "I enjoy working with people and helping them meet their needs based on their vision for their property," Sparks said.
