PROFILE

Billy Rye’s interest in forestry started at a young age. His friend’s dad growing up owned a farm, so he was constantly exposed to the great outdoors. Then in high school, he by chance joined his school’s forestry team, and that just solidified his calling: forest management. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from Mississippi State University—eventually joining the Alabama Forestry Commission—but after eight years, Rye decided to fulfill the dream of owning his own company.

He started Forest Management Specialists, where since then he’s been helping clients from all around Alabama and the Mid-South region with the management of their forest resources. That could be by simply managing, helping the landowner control the harvest, helping fulfill a timber sale, or even keeping an eye on the property on a regular basis for an absentee landowner.

Rye approaches working with each and every client the same, and that’s tailoring his services to meet their individual needs. “I love helping people,” Rye said. “I love helping people reach their objectives, and that’s the motivation behind it all for me. That’s the passion that drives me to do the best job possible for my clients.”
