PROFILE
Forestry has always
been in the family for Jon McDonald. He
grew up watching his father, Tommy, work
in the industry. Specifically, he worked
for Georgia Pacific for 18 years before
starting his own company, Complete
Forestry Service, Inc., in 1997. Jon
knew pretty quickly that he wanted to
follow in his father’s footsteps. “I
always gravitated toward working outside
and not being confined to an office,” he
said. “Already enjoying the outdoors, I
wanted to carry on what my dad started.”
After graduating from Auburn University
with a degree in forestry, Jon did just
that, joining his father at the company.
Together, they offer clients full
service forestry management, from timber
sales and prescribed burning to
reforestation and appraisals. Though
based in Columbus, Georgia, they travel
all over Alabama to perform those
services as well. “We will go wherever
needed if the project is right,” Jon
said.
Wherever the work is, Jon finds each and
every project rewarding, not only
because he enjoys what he does in
helping landowners, but carrying on the
good work his father started all those
years ago. “My father taught me
everything I know,” he said. “I enjoy
working with him and continuing
something he started that we both feel
is important.”
