John Ross Havard has always enjoyed being outside. So it should be no surprise that he eventually landed in a career that kept him there as much as possible.

Havard graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a degree in forestry. Once he was out of school, he went to a work for a forestry contracting company before going to work for a forest consultant, which was his ultimate goal to start doing himself.

Today, Havard works as a consulting forester for private individuals all over central Alabama. He typically works with smaller landowners, taking care of whatever land needs they may have: timber appraisals, harvesting or planting, and even reforestation. Havard utilizes that forestry knowledge for another aspect of his career as well. In addition to working as a consulting forester, Havard also works for National Land Realty. He doesn’t focus exclusively on forestland, but it’s certainly an area of expertise. “Doing both real estate and consulting can help buyers, sellers, or owners in general understand what they are looking at and evaluating what their goals are,” Havard said.
