PROFILE

Ted DeVos has long been an avid outdoorsman. Whether hunting or fishing, camping or boating, most all of his hobbies relate to the outdoors. A longstanding interest in wildlife is what led DeVos to combining it with forestry, pursuing degrees in both areas and starting Bach & DeVos Forestry & Wildlife Services. “Timber management is what wildlife management really is about,” he said. “Managing your land and the timber is how to either make great or marginal conditions for wildlife. You can’t manage wildlife without managing timber.”

DeVos brings a unique vision to timber and land management. He focuses on both the recreational land use and standard timber management. While he helps landowners with typical requests such as prescribed burning and timber harvesting, he does so with an emphasis on wildlife, hoping to help the landowner increase the presence of wildlife like deer, quail, or turkey.

“We focus a little more on production of wildlife and prefer to diversify the timber a bit longer in both age and species,” he said. “It’s a little different and more involved than straight timber management, but I feel it helps landowners take their property to the next level.”
