Dick Conway has traveled through dozens of states to cruise and appraise timber. From Arizona to Montana to the East Coast, he’s seen it all over his 30-plus years as a consulting forester, and he’s still just as passionate about the industry now as he was at the beginning. “I really enjoy improving the conditions that I found when I started working with the landowner and seeing their pleasure in the results,” Conway said. “I’ll be 75 years old my next birthday, and I have no intention of quitting.”

Conway actually grew up in a farming family, but he has been around the industry his whole life—his uncle had a sawmill and his dad worked in the industry at times. When he was old enough to go to work himself, he chose forestry over farming. After working for the state of Florida for a few years and then a private company, Conway eventually started out on his own, Conway Forest Services, in Lafayette. He consults all over east Alabama and into western Georgia, helping clients with practically any land owner-ship needs. “It’s very rewarding,” he said. “Doing a good job every day and helping landowners get the best price is my biggest reward.”
