PROFILE

After growing up with his landowner grandfather and father—who was also a logging contractor—it was only natural for Al Brown to fall into the family business. He actually went a step further and became a consultant and timber dealer. But after about a decade, he felt another calling. “II was being called into the ministry, so I got out of forestry and served as a full-time pastor for several years,” he explained.

After a few years, Brown felt a calling once again: this time to go back into forestry and divide his time between working as a consultant and the ministry. Based in Saraland, he uses his forest management degree from Auburn University to help his landowner clients with all sorts of needs, from marking timber and appraisals to timber sales and even pesticide spraying. And when Brown’s not helping his clients, he’s helping his flock, even making the time to travel overseas at least once a year for mission trips. “I really enjoy timber sales and fulfilling the landowner’s goals,” he said. “That has been my life outside of the ministry. But I also enjoy the ministry. That’s what I’m called to do.”
