PROFILE

Alex Boldog was born into a farm family. Working outdoors was just a natural part of life. After a detour in the military — he joined the Army right out of high school — Boldog chose to make the outdoors his profession and went back to school to pursue a forestry degree. Boldog then spent the next almost 30 years working for the U.S. Forest Service, starting his career in California and then moving to Mississippi and South Carolina before settling in Andalusia, Alabama.

While at the Forest Service, Boldog managed it all: he worked in timber and wildlife, then fire management, recreation and mineral management. Though he re tired in 2006, Boldog wasn’t ready to walk away and went to work consulting for private landowners. Having already worked for a consultant and even getting his pilot’s license and working part time doing aerial detection for various land owners and timber companies, he transitioned into full-time consulting work. Aerial capabilities is just one of the many services that Boldog offers, as well as timber appraisals, individual tree select thinning and invasive species management. “I’m a firm believer that small land owners should selectively remove the weakest trees in the first and second thinnings,” he said. “That’s critically important to profitability and growing the best trees in the long term.”
