After deciding to get into forestry, Mark Bedsole knew that he one day wanted to own his own business. Though his first jobs out of college were for other companies—he worked as a management forester for a paper company and in procurement for Georgia Pacific—he eventually achieved that longstanding dream.

In 2007, Bedsole founded Canebrake Forestry in Linden along with business partner Harold Quinney. The very next year the company welcomed Ben Etheredge into the partnership. The company is focused on providing professional forestry services to large and small landowner customers all over Alabama and even into Mississippi. Currently, the company manages approximately 40,000 acres of land, mostly in west Alabama, and they’ve even gotten into real estate as well. And when he’s not out in the woods helping customers with timber management, prescribed burning, timber cruising, site prep, or any other landowner need, Bedsole can often be found working on his interest—he has a dog training business—or on the baseball field with his twin boys. “I really enjoy what I do every day,” Bedsole said. “There’s a lot of gratification in being outside, working with people to help them achieve their desires, and seeing the results of what we do.”
