For Mark Bass, forestry was the perfect match. It’s a career that allows him to combine two of his favorite things: helping people and spending time out in the woods. He’s been in the industry since graduating from Auburn University in 1989 with a degree in forest management. He spent many years working for other companies, however, before venturing out and starting his own business. After a short stint working for Auburn, he went to work for Georgia Pacific, where he spent nearly a decade as a timber buyer. From there he worked for his brother, who owned his own consulting company. Bass spent 22 years working with his brother before going out on his own and starting Persimmon Creek Forest Services. Based in Opelika, Bass works for clients all over central and south Alabama, taking care of practically any forestry need possible. Some of the most common scenarios Bass works with are tree planting, spraying, controlled burning, and timber sales. “I enjoy it all, even in the heat of the summer,” Bass said. “I get to see so many different properties, helping the owners of each succeed in their goals.”
