PROFILE

Lehman Bass is an avid outdoorsman. Always looking for opportunities to hunt or fish, he knew early on that he wanted to somehow incorporate his love of the outdoors into his career. “When I was looking into college options, I ended up getting a scholarship for forestry at Auburn University,” he said. “That was my sign to go into forestry, and I never looked back.”

Forty-five years later, Bass is still in the business, and he’s not slowing down anytime soon. After starting out in procurement with Georgia Pacific after college and then starting his own company, Green South Land & Timber, in the late 1990s, Bass today works in practically every aspect of timberland management, from helping clients acquire timberland to selling it and replanting. The newest addition to the company is real estate services. “We want to be able to offer everything the landowner could need,” Bass said. “We make a point to offer it all.”

Being able to help his customers with essentially any forestry need is one of the things that has kept him in the business—and has also taken him all over the Southeast. Though to Bass, East Alabama is “where my roots are, and it’s where I’ve met and gotten to know so many wonderful clients.”
