PROFILE

Rod Bach is based out of Montgomery, but his forestry consultant business, Bach & DeVos Forestry & Wildlife Service, has taken him all over central Alabama, and the company’s woodland mulching service takes him all over the Southeast. That variety of the job—the fact there’s always something new and different—is one of the many aspects Bach appreciates about the industry. “I love what I do,” he said. “I love the variety of what I do. It’s always something different.”

The diversity of the job helped attract Bach to the industry years ago. Upon receiving a forestry degree at Auburn University, Bach went on to work for a local consultant, but soon after decided to use his knowledge and experience to start his own consulting company. Since then, Bach has helped his clients with all sorts of timber management services such as sales, prescribed burning, tree planting, and timber cruising, eventually teaming up with friend and fellow forestry worker Ted DeVos, to tweak the company and begin offering clients both timber and wildlife management. “Whether the client is more forestry oriented or wildlife oriented, It’s really satisfying to take a raw property and implement a plan and watch it develop over time,” Bach said.

“Watching the property get better and better over time is so satisfying to me, and why I love what I do.”
