From Berlin to the Backwoods: One Landowner's
Regulatory Nightmare--and Why Alabama Looks Pretty Good Right Now
Leon Mangasarian
is a journalist, landowner, and seasoned transatlantic investor who's seen
forestry from both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to owning
approximately 600 acres of forest land in Georgia, he also owns
approximately 1,850 hectares (approximately 4,500 acres) in eastern Germany.
After a quarter-century battling suffocating regulations and bureaucratic
red tape in Germany, he recently shared his experience with those stateside
in an article for Forest Landowner Magazine entitled "The View From
Abroad." Leon joins us to elaborate upon his unique perspective, contrasting
the challenges of German forest ownership with the relative freedoms enjoyed
by Alabamian landowners.

The Price is Right?
Understanding Lumber Markets & Stumpage Values
Crystal Gauvin is
a Senior Economist at
Forest Economic
Advisors (FEA). Lumber prices might make headlines, but for landowners,
the real number to watch is stumpage prices—the amount paid for timber
standing in the woods. Understanding this connection is key to making
informed decisions about when to harvest and sell. With her years of
expertise at FEA--and her role in developing and launching PricePulse, North
America's first transaction-based price report for wood products, Crystal
has invaluable insight into market trends and what they mean for landowners
looking to maximize their timber investments. Crystal Gauvin joins us to
break it all down.

Baiting Trouble: How
Feeding Deer is Fueling Chronic Wasting Disease
Eric Michel
is currently the Co-Director of the
Deer Ecology and Management Lab at Mississippi State University. Chronic
Wasting Disease (CWD) is creeping closer to Alabama, with confirmed cases in
every neighboring state and even now in northwest Alabama. What does that
mean for landowners, hunters, and the future of deer populations? That's
what Eric and the teamat Mississippi State University has been researching.
With years of experience managing deer populations and researching their
health, Eric has critical insight into how Alabama landowners can protect
their herds before it’s too late. He joins us to break down the risks, the
science behind CWD, and why baiting deer—though legal—might be doing more
harm than good.

Stronger Together: The
Case for Prescribed Burn Associations
Ryan Mitchell is the Southeast Private
Lands Prescribed Fire Outreach Coordinator with
Tall Timbers, where he
works to increase the outreach capacity of the Private Lands Prescribed Fire
team and with Tall Timbers coordinated Prescribed Burn Associations.
Prescribed fire is one of the most effective tools for managing healthy
forests, but for many landowners, the challenges of planning and executing a
burn can feel overwhelming. That’s where Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs)
come in. Ryan joins us to discuss why PBAs are game-changers for
landowners—and why every landowner should consider joining or starting one.
