Illegal Dumping: What
Landowners Should Know
Spencer Ryan
serves as the Executive Director of
Alabama PALS, a
nonprofit statewide organization dedicated to providing and implementing
anti-litter programs and enhance the environmental and economic impact
through a litter free environment.
As a landowner, the issue of
illegal dumping presents not only a nuisance, but also potential
environmental and legal ramifications. Discovering unauthorized waste on
your property can be frustrating and costly to remedy. Not only does it
detract from the aesthetics of the land, but it also poses risks to wildlife
and ecosystems. Moreover, addressing illegal dumping often falls on the
landowner's shoulders, requiring time and resources to clean up and prevent
future occurrences. Spencer joins us to talk about the proactive measures
landowners can take to deter illegal dumping and help mitigate the impact on
your property and community.

Bird's Eye
View: A Birdwatching App to Elevate Your Avian Encounters
Dylan Ogle is
a park naturalist at Wind Creek
State Park.
Birdwatching is an exhilarating hobby, but identifying these feathered
creatures can often be challenging, especially for beginners. With thousands
of species, distinguishing one bird from another requires knowledge and
experience. Fortunately, birdwatching apps like
Merlin make
this task much more accessible. By simply inputting characteristics such as
size, color, and location, users can quickly narrow down potential matches
and receive expert assistance in identifying the bird they've spotted. Dylan
joins us to share how the Merlin app, along with others, not only enhance
the enjoyment of birdwatching but also serve as invaluable tools for
learning and conservation efforts.

Branching
Out: The Rise of Tree Planting In Alabama
T.R. Clark
is the Regional Manager at
F&W Forestry Services.
As the organization shares in its most recent forestry report, numerous
economic conditions have led to an increase in tree planting activity across
the state. Interestingly, loblolly pine was the most commonly planted
seedling species in the South, and the tree planting activities continue to
grow. T. R. joins us to talk about the specific issues that have led to this
increase and what Alabama landowners should be planting.
