Public Policy Seminar
Provides Opportunity to
Explore Issues Facing State Lawmakers
Tom Saunders
is the General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs for the
Alabama Forestry
Association. He also plays a part in putting together the annual
Public Policy Series, which is designed to "provide a comprehensive
detailed focus on legal, legislative and regulatory issues affecting
timberland owners and forest product manufacturers. At the annual event,
which is hosted each January at The Grand Hotel, government officials
discuss topics covering everything from land ownership and new legislation
to court system updates and appropriations analyses. Though an official
agenda has not been released yet for this year's meeting, which is scheduled
for January 28-30, 2024, the title is "The State of Alabama's Governance:
Improving the Quality of Life in Rural Alabama." Thus far, more than 80
state officials have signed up to attend. Tom joins us to talk more about
what can be expected from this annual event and why you should register to

Forest Resource Report: Growth Exceeds Harvest on
Alabama's 23-Million Acre Forest
Dan Chappell is the Assistant Division Director-Forest Management for
the Alabama
Forestry Commission. Each year, the Alabama Forestry Commission
analyzes data from numerous sources to provide a detailed and unique view of
the dynamic resource that is the Alabama forest. Through painstaking and
consistent work, they are able to glean significant details about which tree
species are increasing, which may be declining, which are being harvested at
a young age, and which are allowed to grow for a longer period of time. Dan
joins us to share the need-to-know details from the
2022 Forest Resource Report and the good news that timber growth is
exceeding harvest in Alabama.

Timber Sales: There's an App for That
Josh Gamblin
is the co-founder of
TMBR.market, a company seeking to bring timber owners, consultants,
and buyers together through an easy-to-use app. The app is dedicated to
making it easy for these groups to participate in their local timber market
and for land owners to sell their timber. (*Note: AFOA strongly
encourages
landowners have their consulting forester help them with any timber sale.)
Josh joins us to talk about the app, why he created it, and how it helps
landowners.
