Hunting Cabins and Log Cabins to Fit Any Property

Brock Ray is an avid outdoorsman and hunter and he's also the owner of Brock's Huntin' Cabins and Brock's Log Cabins. On this episode of the Land Show, Brock mentioned having slept in a lot of hunting cabins over the years and how his idea about what makes a good hunting cabin eventually ended as a business. We asked Brock to tell us a little about why he thinks his cabins are a landowner's best bet.

Drone-Delivered Herbicides are Here

Michael Ott is founder and CEO of Rantizo, which caught our eye with a video of a drone spraying herbicide over an agricultural field. Herbicide application for forest management can often be challenging because of lack of access or rough and variable terrain. We think Rantizo's technology, while geared toward the agricultural industry at present, may have exciting potential for forestland uses. We asked Michael to speak with us about Rantizo's technology and how it might be used in forestry settings.

What Landowners Should Know about the Reforestation Deduction

Jib Davidson of Columbia Timber and United Country Real Estate is a longtime forester and timber buyer, and he is also completing a graduate certificate in Forest Finance and Investment at Auburn University. Jib is scheduled to speak at the Florida Forestry Association's annual meeting in September about the often-misunderstood reforestation deduction, and we asked him to share some thoughts with us on this deduction and what forest owners need to know. Listen close to what Jib has to say about what makes a "Qualified Timber Property" so you can talk about it with your financial advisor or CPA.

The Situation: Current Timber Market Outlook

Jonathan Smith is Executive Director of TimberMart-South, a timber price reporting organization housed at the University of Georgia. The latest 2Q bulletin from TimberMart-South says, perhaps unsurprisingly, "While the common, seasonal trend is for stumpage prices to fall in the 2nd Quarter (particularly for the major pine products), the typical quarter-over-quarter (Q/Q) drop was exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
