Urgent Weather Message from ArborGen
1/3/25
The week of January 6, 2025, will pose lower than average temperatures for much
of the US South.
Temperatures are expected to plummet into the middle and lower 20's (Fahrenheit)
Monday January 6th – Sunday January 12th. Those planting seedlings are urged to
exercise extreme caution in protecting bareroot and containerized seedlings and
consider avoiding planting if temperatures are projected to drop below 25
degrees the evening after planting.
Some additional considerations:
- Do not transport seedlings in “open-air” trailers during below freezing
temperatures.
- Do not leave seedlings onsite overnight, especially when temperatures are below
freezing.
- Do not expose seedlings to excessive wind, especially when temperatures are
below freezing.
- Do not plant while the ground is still frozen.
- If planting cannot be delayed for the entire day, delaying hand-planting until
temperatures are above freezing during the morning hours is best.
